William F. Hayden Park on Green Mountain
Mesa View Estates borders William F. Hayden Park on Green Mountain. With more than 2,400 acres of open space, Green Mountain is the second largest park in Lakewood. The park features a challenging network of multi-use trails. The 6,800 ft. summit of Green Mountain Trail offers unique and stunning views of the Denver metropolitan area to the east and snow-capped mountain peaks to the west.
Mesa View homeowners enjoy this park daily for hiking, mountain biking, and leisurely walks. If this is not enough green space, Mesa View Estates also owns and manages approximately 55 acres of open space within our community.
Estates Park
Estates Park is a large park within the Mesa View HOA. It contains two playgrounds (including one completed in 2024), several picnic shelters, two tennis courts (including one with pickleball lines), a basketball court, a volleyball court, and an 18-hole disc golf course. It also contains a large detention basin with a .45-mile paved loop trail and a large open grassy area that’s great for picnics and ball games. This park is managed by the Mesa View HOA in conjunction with the Foothills Park & Recreation District. It’s a cherished gathering spot where neighbors connect, celebrate, and build lifelong memories. Routine events include food truck nights, movie nights, gear swaps, and holiday gatherings.
Sixth Avenue West Park and Pool
The Sixth Avenue West Park and Pool is run by the Foothills Park & Recreation District and was fully renovated in 2024. Mesa View membership dues cover access to the pool, which includes two slides, lap lanes, a one-meter diving board, a concession stand, poolside shade rentals, a hydraulic chair lift, and a children’s play structure with a “kiddie pool” and tot slide. This beautifully renovated facility is just a short walk from your doorstep and a summertime favorite for families and kids of all ages.
Turtle Park & Community Garden
Turtle Park is a grassy park located near the entrance to Mesa View. It serves as a great meet-up point for homeowners and a quieter alternative to nearby Estates Park. It is home to Myrtle the Turtle and Mesa View’s annual Turtle Fest, our largest social event of the year. At Turtle Fest, hundreds of residents come to enjoy live music, free food and drinks, as well as kid-friendly entertainment like bounce houses and face painting. Across from Turtle Park, our peaceful community garden invites residents to grow their own flowers and vegetables—nurturing both plants and neighborly connections. Equipped with several raised garden beds, a picnic table, and some shade trees, this is a peaceful place to enjoy the quieter side of Mesa View.
Golden Heights Park
Golden Heights Park is just a short walk from Mesa View and offers year-round recreational opportunities for all ages. The park features a playground, sports fields, a skate park, and a steep hillside that's ideal for winter sledding. Its athletic fields regularly host little league games and practices, making it a lively community hub throughout the seasons.
Our Beloved Neighbors: The Westernaires
One of the unique features of Mesa View is our neighbor, Fort Westernaire—the home of the Westernaires, a renowned non-profit youth horseback riding organization. For over 70 years, the Westernaires have trained young riders, ages 9 to 19, in western riding, precision drills, and horse care. Despite having just one employee, the organization thrives thanks to a passionate community of dedicated volunteers. Adults are also welcome to get involved by joining the Adult Ride Program or becoming members and renting horses. From the entrance to the community, it's not unusual to catch a glimpse of the horses—and to hear kids cheerfully shouting, “Hi, horses!” as they come and go. It's a charming reminder of the close-knit, family-friendly atmosphere that makes Mesa View so special.
Schools
Many families are drawn to our neighborhood because of the excellent local schools. Our neighborhood elementary school, Kyffin Elementary, has an impressive 9/10 rating on GreatSchools.org and is conveniently within walking distance. Some families also choose to send their children to nearby Dennison Elementary, which holds a perfect 10/10 rating and is ranked #2 in all of Colorado by U.S. News & World Report. Additionally, there are several well-regarded Montessori and charter schools in the area. The appeal extends to nearby middle and high schools as well. Our designated public schools—Bell Middle School and Golden Senior High School—are both highly rated. Families also have the option to "choice" into other Jefferson County schools through a lottery system, providing even more flexibility in education.
